About
Our History
In 2003, Team 1204, "The Eagles," began crafting robots with basic tools and materials at St. Edward High School. Competing in the 2003 FIRST Stack Attack and 2004 FIRST Frenzy at the Buckeye Regional, our 2004 robot's frame now serves as our T-shirt cannon's base, a nostalgic relic. After a brief hiatus for foundational growth, we returned in 2007 as Team 2172 for FIRST Rack and Roll, adopting the moniker "Street Legal" for 2008's FIRST Overdrive. Fabricating our robots in unconventional spaces like cluttered storerooms and school greenhouses, we embraced a more permanent home in the Joseph & Helen Lowe Institute for Innovation in 2009.
In 2011, during FIRST Logomotion, we expanded our membership beyond St. Edward High School, welcoming students from Saint Joseph Academy, and in 2012, representing three Catholic schools in Cleveland. In 2013, we ventured into both FIRST and VEX competitions, launching our social media presence. Our growth continued, sharing knowledge with rookie teams. Notable achievements include our 2015 robot, "George the Dragonslayer," securing state championship status during FIRST Stronghold. In 2019, our expansion at the Lowe Institute coincided with winning the Gracious Professionalism award at the Buckeye Regional. Renamed "Steel Unit-E" for FIRST Infinite Recharge in 2020, our journey is ongoing, continuously learning and evolving with each new challenge.
